Scam Email: Eric Anderson

Hi Kathleen,

I'm a small publisher in Sydney, Australia. I also got one from Eric Anderson, same format as all the others. My gut told me to do a search and I came across this site. Armed with this information, I wrote the following to "Eric Anderson":

- - -

Hi Eric,

Cost of Order = $1260
Cost of shipping = $420
Total cost = $1680

I spoke to my bank today and they said they cannot accept a credit card order from the Philippines without a scan of your passport (lots of scams from your country, I'm afraid). So if you can send that through as a jpg, I'll be grateful. Alternatively, you can send the money via Western Union (I use this method all the time for orders from Russia).

Please let me know how you'd like to proceed.

  1. When the scammer can not move their victim to the next step of the scam, they usually quickly disappear and focus on the next potential victim. I'm glad you were able to verify your gut instincts and not get caught up in this fake buyer scam.

Hopefully, we are at least lowering their success rate.

Same guy? Probably. I told him we can accept paypal or personal checks. Any advice?

  4. I wouldn't accept personal checks either. They will be as counterfeit as the cashier's check.
also, be careful with paypal. Scammers will send a fake confirmation email saying the money has been received, hoping the victim won't actually check their account until after they have forwarded the money.

Of course, the best way to avoid this scam is to NEVER ever wire money to anyone online. That is the one piece of this scam that never changes and is required for the scam to work.

Concerning the shipment, the likes of UPS,FEDEX and POST OFFICE always don't take care of the charges down here. 6. We are a large online supplier of darts and related products. Got almost an identical email. It is a scam. Has been well documented if you do a search on the company name and email address.

  7. I received a very similar e-mail, but shipping to Singapore. He paid with a credit card that went through Paypal. On the day the shipper was supposed to pick up the shipment, he e-mailed that he stopped the pick-up because he wanted to buy even more products. So I Googled Eric Anderson and found this website and also Spamguard, where some one posted a complaint saying he was probably using a stolen-identity credit card.

  8. I received an order for 200 of one of my necklaces to be sent to Singapore and to use a certain shipping company I cant find. The only place I can find with that name is a gas company located in England. I told him I needed a nonrefundable deposit to cover the cost of the materials to make the necklaces. He said he preferred to pay up front but he wanted me to get a quote for the shipping charges. I have tried to get a hold of the shipping company and the email address takes me to a screen all about scams perpetrated by Eric Anderson. It says he orders large quantities and tried to pay with a credit card owned by someone else entirely. It all seemed to good to be true when I talked to him and now it seems as though that is exactly it - too good to be true. I plan to confront him about this scam alert and see how he responds. What a cruel thing to waste my time working up designs, material costs, samples etc. Thank God I refused to start any work until I received payment.
